Frances Burton Hartley, 90, of Petersburg, passed away peacefully September 21, 2024 at Brickyard Healthcare in Petersburg, IN. She was born March 10, 1934 to Goethe and Edna (Robling) Burton in Petersburg, IN. She was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Petersburg High School Class of 1953.
On September 13, 1959, Frances married Billie G. Hartley, with whom she shared 54 years until his passing in 2013. Together, they built a strong, loving family and a life rooted in faith, community, and hard work. She was a dedicated member of the First Church of God in Petersburg and took joy in serving others, both in her work as a cook for the Pike County School Corporation and later in the deli department at the Petersburg IGA. Later she worked as an office assistant and activities assistant at Golden Living Center in Petersburg.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Michael) LaValle; son, Donald (Katie) Hartley; grandchildren, Amanda LaValle, Christopher (Jenny) LaValle; Loretta Ezell, Michael (Courtney) LaValle, Megan (Donnie Marcum) Hartley, Josh (Sarah) Hartley, and Amy (Roy) Pruden; Frances was also blessed with 43 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Billie Hartley; her parents; brother, Bob Burton; sister, Shirley Wise, and a grandson, David Hartley.
Frances's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family and community will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
Services for Frances will take place at 1 PM EST on Wednesday, September 25, at Harris Funeral Home with visitation from 10 AM EST until service time. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery in Bowman, IN. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
